I felt weird about this getting so many downloads without it actually being here, so I'm making it available again.
The year is 1721, by the New Reckoning.
The current Mytonian bishop, Alistaire Reynold Seigrov III, has declared a holy war against any who would dare oppose the Mytonian church. He cites, as his justification, a passage from the newly translated seventh book of St. Kornav's wisdom, which reads, "Let those adherents to the teachings of this book punish those that disagree with us." The great Mytonian Examination has begun.
The place is Dermost, a small town about 100 miles east of the Holy City of Mytos.
Two examiners have been called in to deal with a report of heresy, but, in the aftermath, events are set in motion that will effect the church for thousands of years afterward, and one man makes a deal that could threaten the lives of everyone around him.
In the midst of all this, the awful truth about the seventh book is revealed...
DISCLAIMERS:
Originally written for the 2003 Human Day contest, By the Seventh Book is mildly oriented around the translation theme, but has many more important themes pervading through it. Some of these themes may be interpreted as religious, and some of the content may be offensive to barbarians who think that the Inquisition was totally just.
This is not an RPG, this is interactive fiction. There are four mini-games, and no battles, but it is mostly a story, about forty minutes long. It is my first game in a while to not have multiple endings, but the story is well affected by how it is played.
The graphics to this game aren't the best. Deal with it. I'm a writer/programmer, not a pixelist.
This game has no music.
WARNING: Blood and Violence. |

"My choice for the best game in the Human Day Contest '03. Don't judge it harshly because its a contest game...this game tells a great story and it tells it well. " |
